I am very new to music, so this question may seem silly, but why are there different sets in Sarali Varisai? I have gone through many sites on the internet and my notes and everyone of them seem to have their own combination within their set. Your clarifications will be of great help for a confused novice like me.

    Thanks in advance,
    Vani

    Vani,
Sorry for the delay in response. I overlooked the notification for this comment.

Sarali Varisas are meant for practice and their purpose is to get thorough with the notes. As i understand, there is no definitive list of Sarali/Janta varisas but it exists for Tarasthayi/Madhyasthayi varisas. Different combinations of notes are very much possible as long as they comply to the raga Mayamalavagaula.

    Thanks,
    Karthika

I love Carnatic music and learned it in my childhood, but I am not at all familiar with the basic theory of carnatic music. I really apprecaite your work and time you are spending on this portal. As with Zero knowledge on basics I get lot of questions, and sometimes I get the answers from these music realted blogs and portals. When I go back and practice my lessons I get confused with the swaras. How do we differentiate R1 with R2 while singing. Can you please uplo an audio file with the variations of the swaras like R1vs. R2 G1vs.G2 etc.

    Best Regards,
    Sreedevi
